So I’m riding along on my bike one day and this thought pops into my head. “What if God was on Facebook?” What if God is boppin’ along the streets of gold and says to himself. “You know, Mark Zuckenberg and his Harvard buds, Dustin Moskovitz, Eduardo Saverin and Chris Hughes have really run with that Facebook idea I gave them back in 2004. When I get back to my throne room, I think I’ll join FB and check it out for myself.”
So God gets on Facebook. The mind boggles at the thought, right? How many friends would he have? Would YOU be His friend? Who would believe that the real God . . . the creator of the Universe; the guy who got so ticked off at us that he flooded the whole earth to start over again with Humans 2.0; the guy who talked to Moses from a burning bush; the guy who loved this world so much that he gave his only Son to save EACH of us; the guy who has since come down to earth and dwelled within all those who believe in him as the Holy Spirit . . . THAT supernatural, cosmic, trinity in unity God is on Facebook? And you can chat with him anytime you want. You can comment on His page and he can leave messages on your page.
He could leave messages like, “Pray for Jeremy today. He’s two years old and he’s got brain tumors. He goes in for surgery at 10:00 AM.” Or “My friend, Nita needs your prayers. She has no money and no food to feed her children for the rest of the month. She hasn’t seen that deadbeat husband of hers in two years. Her littlest one, Jamie, won’t make it through the night.”
I mean, it’s like you’re going to pray, right? You’re going to pray like you’ve never prayed before. I mean this is God talkin’ to ya! If he says Jamie won’t make it through the night, you can take that to the bank. How scary would it be to have that kind of knowledge, to experience omniscience firsthand?
What if the almighty God didn’t friend you? Whoa! The thought sends subzero chills down the spine. Well, you say, he’s got too many friends to keep track of anyway, right? No way. This IS God. He can handle it. He can have millions of friends and be intimately in touch with each of them all in the same moment. How surreally cool is that?
What if under the “Photos” tab there are millions of photos of Him? The God we’ve only heard about and read about and believed in is now actually seen by millions. Only when you look at the photos, they’re all pictures of people. They’re all headshots of His friends, because he lives in each of His friends. What if you went through all those millions of photos and your face wasn’t there?
What if you checked out the videos tab and you saw this amazing musical performance. Remember . . . The Arts Are A Bridge Between Heaven And Earth! http://www.bollesartsinternational.com/ Then you look to your right at someone else’s computer screen and their video is a slideshow of beautiful nature photos. You look behind you and the screen on that person’s computer shows breathtaking views of the universe. You look to your left and the video that person is watching is of their own children playing. They’re all individual interpretations of God in His greatness.
As you continue to play around on God’s Facebook page, you check out the links tab and see that there are bazillions of links to the most fascinating and mundane things in the world. He loves them all. You check out the Causes that He supports and you want to contribute to every one of them. They are all so worthy. Your heart is in your throat. Your eyes well up with hot tears. You feel a peace in your heart that you’ve been longing for so long. You’re overcome with emotion just being so close to the infinite loving God you have always wanted to know better.
Wait a minute.
We don’t need Facebook to be friends with God. We don’t need technology to experience all this and more each and every minute of each and every day. The mechanism is already in place. It has been for millennia since He put it in place. It’s all about our personal intention. Our intention, our heart, our beingness, those are the things that will create an intimate relationship with the Creator of the universe, the loving Father, the one who makes us whole. A very good friend once told me that without Jesus our hearts are extremely wicked and can't be trusted. When we receive Jesus, our hearts become the connection to the Father.
Psalm 145:18 (NIV) says, "The Lord is near to all who call on him." You may be just one click away from the relationship you’ve always wanted. Go ahead push the button. Take the leap. From the moment you sign up for that relationship with God, your life will never be the same. If you're not sure how to push that button, contact me.
